Wisdom-based economy: Are you ready?

According to Deepak Chopra, M.D., prolific best-selling spiritual author, adjunct professor at the Kellogg School of Management and advisor to companies like Coca-Cola, the future does not belong to the survival of the fittest. It belongs to the survival of the wisest.

Chopra is a global thought leader known for melding modern theories of quantum physics with timeless wisdom of ancient cultures. In a TV interview on The Wall Street Journal Report, he advised that if we pursue excellence through wisdom, success will follow. At a conference on peace, Chopra declared, "Survival of the wisest will become the new criteria for evolution. It is a new civilization based on wisdom-based consciousness, a wisdom-based economy, and a wisdom-based power structure and leadership."

What happened to our knowledge-based economy? According to the experts, knowledge is a commodity. We all have access to knowledge. Making wise decisions with this knowledge will lead to our success and ultimate satisfaction in life.

Wisdom is defined as insight and the ability to discern what is true, right or lasting. The rise of a wisdom-based economy is reflected in the current focus on sustainability and the growth of environmentally conscious businesses.

It’s also reflected in the backlash against technology as wise workers recognize that it’s not always in our best interests to be the fastest to perform a task or allowing 24/7 access. We are living creatures, not computers, and we need to reflect and re-energize. We require the time and space to tap into our inner guidance system for information and inspiration. It’s common sense. It’s wise.

Do you agree that we are moving toward a wisdom-based economy and, if so, how are you preparing for it?
