Something to Think about this Weekend…Intentionally

As you consider your resolutions for the New Year, stop a moment and reflect on your intention. What’s the one word that crystallizes your intent for 2017?

As I wrote in the chapter, Define Your Life Purpose: Setting Intentions, from “Working with Wisdom,” “An intention is the broad, bright light that leads the way for more specific goals you set. It is the sacred promise made between your soul and the universe to take responsibility and assure the quality of what you will manifest.”

Debbie Ford, the author of “The Best Year of Your Life,” describes it this way: “Intent is to humans what software is to a computer. When installed in your psyche, intent gives you access to new capabilities, which opens up new realities.”

So, how do you set your intention and then what do you do with it?

First, even before you consider what you want to do, have or be in the New Year, decide how you want to feel. Is there a challenge you want to overcome that will require a specific skill or quality? What are you passionate about? What does the world need right now where you can contribute?

Second, consider some of these intentions or come up with your own:

  • Balanced

  • Energized

  • Loving

  • Peaceful

  • Reflective

  • Wise

  • Purposeful

  • Free

  • Trusting

  • Compassionate

  • Accepting

  • Joyful

  • Prosperous

  • Healthy

  • Grateful

  • Mindful

  • Curious

  • Adventurous

  • Brave

Next, craft an affirmation that gives your intention power.

It could be as simple as, “I am _______.” or “Today, I choose to express _______.” Write it down and post it where you will see it every day. On your bathroom mirror, the dashboard of your car or by your computer screen. Make it the screenshot on your phone. Or make it into jewelry. Check out My Intent.

Finally, say your intent to yourself, out loud and, when appropriate, share it with others. Encourage them to choose and use their own intent. When faced with opportunities and challenges in 2017, refer to your intent for guidance. Ask, “Does this choice align with my intent?”

So, what’s your intention for 2017?  For me, my intent is Grace. To be kind and gentle to myself as I continue to grow and learn and make mistakes along the way, and to express grace to others on their path.

I’d love for you to share your one-word intention below. Here’s to an intentional, sensational New Year!

I came up with two words for 2017. First I wanted to my word to be abundance. But then I realized I might get abundance in the wrong areas. So then I realized I want abundance with clarity. I want to be clear in my intentions and make sure I am putting my efforts in the right places to get the abundance I want.
