What does it mean to be kind to yourself?
It might be to forgive yourself for not being perfect or for making a mistake. For doing something you now regret or not doing something you wish you had. It might be to ask for help or support when you need it.
Being kind to yourself might be putting your personal commitments on your “to-do” list–along with all your other obligations and responsibilities. To make healthy choices, like eating right or taking time to exercise, relax, reflect, laugh.
It might be doing something that brings you joy. One thing I do to be kind to myself is wander around my garden, marvel at what’s growing and take pictures of flowers, like the one above.
If you think being kind to yourself is an exercise in self-indulgence with no real bottom-line benefits, I disagree. It’s the wisest way to help reduce stress and be more positive and productive at work and at home.
Remember, today is “Be Kind to Yourself Day” and so is tomorrow. How will you be kind to yourself every day? I love hearing from you!
